“Egypt Unlocks the Door – Hamas Slammed For Blocking Foreigners Out of Gaza!

The Middle East has been a hotbed of political unrest for decades, and the situation in Gaza is no exception. In the latest development, Secretary of State Antony Blinken has declared that Hamas is to blame for foreign nationals in the strip not being able to leave. Meanwhile, Egypt has offered to help out those wishing to evacuate. The conflict between Israel and Hamas, an Islamic nationalist group, is an ongoing one. Recently, Israel has launched air attacks against Hamas targets in retaliation for rocket fire into Israeli territory. As a consequence, Israeli authorities have closed the Israel-Gaza border, preventing foreign nationals from leaving. According to Secretary Blinken, Hamas is to blame for the situation as they “have failed to take the necessary steps” to close their borders and allow foreigners to exit. He further stated that, despite the overwhelming humanitarian issue, the United States is “not going to rush in and try to do something that would only make the situation more difficult.” In contrast, the Egyptian government has volunteered to help those wanting to evacuate the strip. Their foreign ministry has announced that it will provide refuge from those seeking to leave and transport to the nearest port. However, as of yet, this proposal has not been taken up officially by either the US or Israel. The Secretary of State further stated that the US will continue to press for a resolution to the crisis, and that “the international community needs to join together to help those facing this humanitarian crisis.” It remains to be seen exactly how the international community might be able resolve the issue. If a solution isn’t found soon, thousands of foreigners could end up trapped in an escalating conflict. Until then, Secretary Blinken has made it clear that Hamas is firmly to blame, and urged upon the relevant parties to ensure the safety of those who have been caught in the middle.
