“El Chapo’s Mom: María Consuelo Loera Passes On At 94

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Consuelo Loera, the mother of imprisoned drug lord El Chapo. At the age of 94, Maria Consuelo Loera passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 in her hometown of La Tuna, Mexico. As the mother to infamous drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, Maria Loera has experienced great sadness and frustration. The Loera family is well-known throughout Mexico and the world. Joaquin’s father, Emilio Guzman, was a prominent drug trafficker. His brother, the late Arturo Guzman, was assassinated in 2015. The Guzman-Loera family has also been linked to other prominent figures in the drug trafficking underworld, including Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, El Chapo’s partner and ally. After El Chapo’s arrest in 2016, in which Maria Loera was involved in his capture, she mourned the loss of her son as she watched him navigate the legal system in the United States. In 2017, a federal court in New York convicted El Chapo of trafficking numerous drugs including cocaine, heroin and marijuana. He was sentenced to life in prison and is currently serving his sentence at the USP Florence High in Colorado. Maria Consuelo Loera was born on April 15, 1926 in La Tuna, the home of the Guzman-Loera family. She was a hardworking woman, dedicated to her family, and loved by many. She will undoubtedly be remembered with love and admiration by the countless lives she touched. Her death has left many family and friends of the drug kingpin heartbroken. Although she has left us, she will never be forgotten.
