“Trump Soars Ahead in Michigan: 4-1 Lead Over Republican Rivals in Post-Monmouth Poll

A new Monmouth poll released today has revealed that President Donald Trump currently holds a commanding lead among potential GOP presidential candidates in Michigan. The survey, conducted between October 17-20, found that Trump enjoys a whopping 42 percent share of the vote—almost four times greater than the second most popular candidate in the field. The survey revealed that Trump is being backed by a broad coalition of Republican voters across the state. He is leading among both men and women, white and non-white voters, and even leads former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld among Tea Party voters. Trump continues to enjoy strong support among older voters, as well as those with conservative religious beliefs. The results of the Monmouth survey represent a major shift in the attitudes of Michigan voters when compared to recent polls. Trump has seen his national approval numbers fall in recent weeks as impeachment hearings continue to soldier on. Yet in Michigan, Trump appears to have maintained—and perhaps even increased—his level of support in the state. It looks increasingly likely that unless something major occurs in the intervening months, President Donald Trump will be carrying Michigan’s primary votes come next November. The survey results are certainly a sign of the strength of Trump’s standing among the traditionally red state’s GOP electorate. One thing is for sure: with the President enjoying such a commanding lead in the state’s primary polls, the rest of the GOP pack may have a tough time catching up.
