“Activist Prepares for Pro-Life Triumphs Despite Growing Abortion Access

As the debate over abortion rights rages on, pro-life activists remain hopeful that their efforts will ultimately yield success. This was evidenced in a recent statement from Denise Harle, a leader at the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a conservative legal organization based in Arizona. Harle expressed optimism about the fight against abortion in spite of recent ballot initiatives expanding abortion access in some parts of the country. Harle praised pro-life activists’ consistent work in spreading the message of the gospel of life, “We’ve defended the lives of unborn children in courtrooms and legislatures,” noting that the efforts of pro-life advocates had led to many victories. She stated that the recent ballot initiatives had not altered this in any substantial way and that pro-life activists should instead view them as a challenge to be met head-on. Harle argued that although the victories may not look the same as before, they are still meaningful. For example, efforts such as the campaign to defund Planned Parenthood have been successful, leading to the federal government cutting funding to the organization and other abortion services providers. In addition, lawsuits brought by ADF and other pro-life organizations have blocked the opening of abortion clinics in some areas, as well as pushed back against the use of taxpayer money for abortion. Harle’s overall sentiment seemed to reflect a deep conviction on the part of many pro-life activists that their ultimate victory is inevitable, noting that “abortion is very much a losing issue…our beliefs and our efforts remain strong.” She encouraged pro-lifers to take heart in the fact that while many battles may still need to be fought, progress is being made on the abortion front. For many advocates of the right to life, the message of hope brought by Harle gave them encouragement to keep up the fight. Pro-life activists can use these victories — big or small — as motivation to never give up until unborn children are safe and abortion is made illegal.
