Rand Paul’s Festivus Report Exposes $900 Billion In Government Squander
For the second year in a row Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has released his Festivus Report to expose massive levels of government waste. The report has revealed that the government is mismanaging nearly $900 billion of taxpayer money.
The Festivus Report is an annual holiday tradition started by Paul in 2018. During this time of year, Paul and his team comb through the yearly federal budget and compile a list of wasteful and unnecessary government spending. This report serves as an important reminder that taxpayer money should not be frivolously wasted, particularly with so many Americans in need.
In his report, Paul pointed out several examples of government overspending. Included in the report are expenditures on Teletubby toys, trips to Bermuda, and a recent $165,000 study on duck genitalia, to name some of the most egregious examples cited. Additionally, the report highlighted hundreds of billions of dollars in federal spending that are either duplicative or unproductive.
Senator Paul has urged Congress to act on these findings and pass legislation to prevent unnecessary squandering of public funds. He hopes that if his Senate colleagues take the time to examine the actual dollar amounts and nature of government spending, they will identify several areas where wasteful spending can be curbed.
Paul acknowledged that some would argue that it’s the government’s job to spend resources on “pet projects” but he argued that such wasteful spending should be limited and never excessive. “We all know that this type of action is unproductive,” Paul said. “We must not let our emotion to get the better of us when government money is on the line. Fiscal responsibility is an issue we should all take seriously.”
Senator Paul is urging fellow politicians to take the necessary steps to reduce waste and ensure that taxpayer dollars are used wisely and efficiently. The Festivus Report shines a light on the mitigated manner in which funds are spent by our government. Every American has an obligation to speak up when it comes to government waste and it is our job to ensure that public money is used for the right reasons.
